SP SCLAT
Train Symbol SCLAT passes Converse, Texas. Notice the gas price. This train, originating in Charleston, SC, was one of the "hottest" intermodal trains travelling the Sunset Route.

Fred Stuckmann General All around great homepage shot. I'll take $10.00 regular please. 1/13/2014 7:05:56 PM
Tom Beckett General The second unit it notable, as it was one of only four U36B's on Conrail. The units were ordered by Auto Train, which went bust before they could take delivery, and CR picked them up. They were based in Selkirk NY, and mostly worked on the River Line to Jersey, or to Long Island. I saw them on numerous occasions on SELI, the train that interchanged with the LIRR at Fresh Pond NY. To see it in Texas is a real catch. Funny you mention the gas price. I was scanning some shots from the Binghamton NY area from 1991, and have a similar situation, except the price of regular is $1.23-we'll never see that again, although it was down to $1.65 here in Ark a month ago. Nice shot. I miss the trains of that era. 3/1/2015 2:25:33 AM

Tom Beckett General Home page again 07-22-2022. Still marveling at the consist in this train-an SCL U33B, CR U36B, and an SP SD 39-two of them unusual types that didn't sell a lot of units. Marveling at the gas price, too-currently down to $3.75 here as I write this, down from about $4.40 a month ago. I recall those days well, when you could drive all day on $10 worth. 7/22/2022 4:31:48 AM
